Had the first meeting of the school ukulele club. I play guitar, but had never touched a uke with a barge pole. Now many instruments can cover some of the virtues listed above, but only the uke can cover ALL of these bases.Ī student of mine wanted to start a ukulele club. The uke quickly hands you the keys to playing many different types of music. I've seen many ukes that are as beautiful to look at as they are to play.ġ0) Compared to most other instruments, quite cheap.ġ1) Incredible musical diversity. It's a smile machine.Ĩ) I also love that the ukulele is not only an instrument but quite often a piece of art in itself. It's a very refreshing instrument.ħ) As my father observed, the moment you pull out an ukulele everyone in the room is instantly in a good mood. This is very different from many other instruments where the ability to produce music people actually want to hear is often a goal years away.Ħ) It's a huge plus that the uke sound is still new to so many ears. I see so many interesting musical challenges on the horizon but I can still play some great songs today. And it's at its best when it does both in the same strum.ĥ) When I am practicing I have a tangible sense that this is simple enough that I can eventually conquer this instrument, but it's vast enough that I know I will be challenged for years to come. At times it's a but scrappy, and at others it simply sings. I actually feel a quiet sense of awe each time I take one out of its case.Ĥ) I love its unique sound. (Ukes are simply awesome for little kid gathering sing alongs.)ģ) I am fascinated that something so small and delicate has such amazing musical power. ![]() ![]() wanted something upbeat and fun.Ģ) Had kids and needed an instrument that was family oriented. ![]() 1) My last instrument that I played for many years was gorgeous and impressive, but really depressing.
